The fact a military rifle came with a rubber butt pad instead of the normal metal butt plate would be a clue.

Having shot them I don’t think they kick any different than an M44 does. I think the Styer M95 is much more unpleasant to shoot.

I don't know about others but the rubber butt plate on the one I shot was as hard as rock. I'm assuming it got that way over time, but even if it didn't a piece of solid rubber 1/4 or so thick doesn't provide much cushion.

That said, one of my favorite rifles to shoot offhand.

Can't argue with that...I've fired a Mosin carbine which was as unpleasant a rifle to shoot as I've ever tried.
