A model 12 was built on a K frame and an aluminum one at that.

The Model 36 is steel and based on the smaller J frame. The Model 12 is rarer and has an aluminum cylinder and is based on the larger K frame.

That Model 12 is beautiful! Hard to find and seems to come with the original box.

That Model 12 is beautiful! Hard to find and seems to come with the original box.

Smith had trouble with the aluminum cylinders and switched back to steel. I have one and it has an alloy frame and steel cylinder.

As I recall, all the Air Force models were recovered and melted down after the reduced power ammo didn't work out.
