I have a Colt LE 901....never even tried to put a 556 upper on it, but I've always assumed it wouldn't meet Maryland law....could be wrong?

Would be hard to argue that it is a clone since it was completely different dimensions and without the conversion kit 5.56 magazines will fall right out of it.

That's true, I haven't thought about it but it isn't a clone....I love the gun, but just like Colt, they made it with proprietary parts that aren't interchangeable....for example, can't use a Bravo Company charging handle, won't fit.

Doesn't need to be HBAR. Parts aren't interchangeable with a legacy AR-15. Not sure if being able to use LW uppers and barrels would negate the weight increase of the larger reciever and such though.
