Negative, it will take any 9mm AR magazine, whether Colt brand, YHM, ProMag, etc. You can also modify Uzi mags to work in it.

The dedicated magwell should make it unregulated. My CMMG 9MM was transfered as cash and carry, but to be clear, I didn't buy it from Engage.
