Anyone here with experience doing Vintage Military matches with CMP. I'm looking to get some first-hand info on how to best prepare. The practicing part I've pretty much got down, but often times there are questions that one doesn't think to ask when embarking on something new.

You could start with a basic jacket or even heavy coat. A glove.
Get a decent mat, good sling learn how to use it. Some strippers/ en blocks dependent on what you’re shooting.
A score book, little pencil and clip board. ( learn how to score targets)
When you dry fire use a timer and learn to use all your time - every time.
Practice perfect your positions when dry firing / with your gear.
You may even want (need) an eci and some smudge for your sights.
Know your targets and how to use your sights / frame your target and hold.
Have fun / be prepared to be humbled.
Don’t let your rifle get dq’d and or have a spare if you travel.

I went in a read a little of that thread.
    It’s great someone is/ was organizing match’s.
You need to be able to reload your rifle in the rapids.
Match’s are as much about knowing /handling your rifle as much as marksmanship discipline.
100yd walk and paste with reduced targets is a good way to learn relays get familiarized or for places with short firing lines or limited range resources Rso’s.

Thanks for the responses and sorry for the delay in getting back. I got to looking more closely at rules and regs and forgot to respond! What style of jackets are legal for VM?

Hello - I have shot in more than a few CMP matches. No different than a standard Hi Power match if you have ever done that. The Seneca Valley Rifle Club holds monthly 100 yard matches on Saturday morning at the Damascus Isaac Walton League. They are on the schedule on the website. Friendly matches and a great way to get started. You are welcome to contact me with questions.

Oh cool! I didn't know they did that at Isaak Walton. I'm a member at that chapter. I guess I should pay more attention! I would love to do that. Looks like the next one is the 18th. I just emailed the contact person about it.

I second what Doco Overboard suggests regarding dry fire practice while wearing your gear, especially learning how to use the sling with a coat on and getting in and out of the sling quickly. getting in and out, as well as staying in position, with a properly worn sling can be painful at times.
