I respect AND appreciate Bollingers. They have a great reputation because they've earned it over time. The post was poking fun at the lengths some folks will go to (or not) to save a buck...

I find interesting that many members will go out of their way to save a couple bucks. Time is money. I find (IMO) that many members will put up with less than good service to save time and money. Both of these phenomenon are closely linked to the major metro area. While they do occur elsewhere, they're not nearly so prevalent as they are in DC/BALT.

I've always preferred the relationship side of the coin. Don't get me wrong, I am a cheapskate but driving 40-50 miles AND putting up with some jackanapes behind the counter, isn't worth it to save ~$20. Indeed, most folks spend no small amount of gas money chasing a "deal" (well maybe not so much with gas hovering around $2/gal but you get my point.)

Being recognized (a la Norm @Cheers) and knowing who I'm dealing with means a lot to me. I'm willing to pay for trust. I'm willing to spend more time (and money) with someone I like.

    That's just me.

Check out Tylers Firearms who is an IP, He is about 25 min from Eldersburg and tries to make his prices at or less what the total price would be from an online vendor with transfer and shipping. I haven't purchased from him but have read good reviews.

There is such a discerpency in prices at LGS's that it may not be $10-15 and more like closer to $100 in most of the guns I have priced out. Some say customer service, I don't know about you but my LGS is not a gunsmith so other than possibly handling warranty issues, I am not sure what they could provide more than they do with transfers. I would have no issue paying $10, $20, or even $30 to support my local gunshop but I can't bring myself to pay $100 more. My LGS is so close that even if a store 20-30 min away offered a comparable price to online it would be worth my time or money to have to drive there and back twice.
