This afternoon I thought I’d load up a few rounds of 350 Legend after work. Of course, I get 7 rounds done and the next case gets stuck in my resizing die.

Usually, I’ll flip the die upside down, let some oil seep around the case inside the die, then tap it out with a punch. Sometimes I’ll try using the press and the shell holder to remove a stuck case - in this case I ripped the rim off the case.

However, this one is stuck. I’ve hammered my punch for a good 1/2 hour and it hasn’t budged. I’m at a loss here - I’ve never had a case stuck this bad.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I’ve thought about giving it some heat to help get the case unstuck.

Try putting it in the freezer overnight. Next morning, take it out and promptly give it a good whack. That has worked for me in the past.

I've always drilled and tapped the primer pocket. Use a 1/4-20 bolt and some washers and a socket. Socket should clear the case and the lip rest on the die. Place the washers over the drive end of the socket and run the bolt thru and thread into the stuck case. Turn the bolt to pull the case out of the die and up into the socket. A little Kroil helps. Remove the decapping die assembly so you don't bugger it up when drilling.

They actually sell a couple of different stuck case removers, depending on the type of die you are using.

UPDATE: I left the die with the stuck case in the freezer last night (-10*F) and it didn't help. I did bend my punch though. I have no idea how this case got this stuck, as I'm usually pretty good about lubing my cases and it's not a bottleneck cartridge, so it's not too much lube on the neck.

I think I'll take some advice I was given on here and try drilling the primer hole out, threading it, and see if I can remove it that way.

    Use a fine thread tap.

    They will certainly try!
If its just UTTERLY stuck (as one of mine was, they couldn't even get it out with a multi-thousand pound hydraulic press) they'll just replace the die.
