Israel in the modern sense is a new "state". However, if you dig in Jerusalem you'll find that Israel has been there for a long time............

Relative to what? Our own young country is almost a century older than Italy. The maps that people love to show with the geographical area labeled "Palestine" and no Israel are often covering just enough of the Mediterranean that you can see there's also no Croatia. And while we're at it, no Saudi Arabia, or Jordan, either. What does "relatively new" have to do with with legitimacy of the government of Gaza having thousands of their people cross the border into Israel to hack up women and children out of the blue last month? They should have been tending to what should be a Mediterranean coastal tourist hot spot and enjoying their prosperity, but they don't actually want prosperity or the liberty that creates it.

The Gazan people chose Hamas to be their government and act on their behalf. And here we have the fruits of Hamas doing just that, unmolested by the couple million people in Gaza that would appear in the majority to at the very least tacitly endorse what they do and the genocide they've formally committed themselves to. Israel's "newness" has nothing to do with Hamas's medieval death cult culture. No more than people slaughtered in Croatia by the Serbs had anything to do with Croatians claiming their own nation out from under Soviet dominance through the construct that was Yugoslavia. Pointing to a map from the 1970's showing no Croatia doesn't mean squat, any more than pointing to a map of pre-contemporary-Israel means squat.

Israel is an ancient place home to many mixes of side-by-side cultures over the centuries, just as modern Israel is a multicultural place. But anyone claiming that Muslim settlers in that region have more of a claim over what had been an unimproved bit of desert scruff than Jews whose ancestors lived their eons before Muhammed starting "settling" the Middle East at the point of the sword ... is knowingly gaslighting.

I think you're reading far too deep into this.

When I said "both sides", I was referring to the activist left (which CASA here seems to be pandering too) and the Evangelical right. The activist left seems to think that they as "black and brown" allies have some sort of alliance in the struggle of Palestinians in Gaza/West Bank - who are in some of the most densely populated areas in the world, all the while being held in this area as a de facto prison. To think they have some solidarity in their struggle is laughable. Moreover, it's funny to watch the left tear itself apart, some seem to be super worried about a "rise in antisemitism" and others support whatever is trendy, which is now Palestine.

When I think about the cringe conservatives, I'm mostly referring to neoconservative Israel supporters who think the modern state of Israel is somehow Biblical, and therefore nothing the Israeli government does is wrong and anyone who thinks the United States should stop supporting them with billions in taxpayer revenue is an anti-semite.

Hate crimes emanate from the top, and roll downhill.

Insofar as hatred of specific groups is promulgated by parents and surrounding cultures, and controls on this sort of activity are generated by the leadership class, they would seem to be the prime movers, effectively removing the lid on hatred by either encouraging it, or making no societal effort to iniibit it.

Hatred subsequently spreads to the more disaffected classes, who are given, or allowed, or encouraged, to act out against the unprotected out-group. Their problem is that life is literally too easy for them, in terms of shelter and creature comforts, and they have not and likely will not for some time face the sort of growing-up crucibles that would normally kick them into purposeful adulthood. Like, wondering if the crops will fail, or knowing the family breadwinner is about to die from sepsis because of an infected toe. Stuck in their arrested development, being 12 year olds strolling about in 20- or 30-something bodies, they can muster only the capricious, windblown emotional whiplash that one experiences as a tween ... and they're stuck there. In fact they're coddled and cultivated with exquisite precision by their children-of-the-hippies handlers because it's in that state that they are the most useful bot army. Witness their full-throated support of Hamas, one step removed, a group that is the distillation of everything - in practical terms - they were pretending to hate just a month ago.

The schadenfreude embedded in this situation makes for a delightful object for contemplation.

It will be amusing for those remaining to watch as the problems that life for these entitled infants will bring them, and the level of fail that will ensue. Rough on the rest of us, of course, but that's par for the course when societies devolve into decadence.

Whatever comes from this mass of societal manure will be stronger and hardier, and hopefully inclined toward personal freedom.

We stand shoulder to shoulder with countless Black and brown freedom activists from around the world. We specifically condemn the utilization of U.S. tax dollars to promote the ongoing violence. We call for an immediate ceasefire to save all precious life and halt the systematic ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people,” the Silver Spring-based organization said in a statement issued Monday as a press release and on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

The statement closed, “free Palestine NOW!”

Del. Gabriel Acevero (D-Dist. 39), who represents Montgomery County in the Maryland General Assembly, has also joined calls for a ceasefire. He was a leader of a Nov. 5 rally in Rockville advocating for a ceasefire and has issued statements on social media supporting Palestinian freedom.

Montgomery Perspective first reported that on a personal Facebook page, Acevero posted “Free Palestine” and condemned “genocide happening in Gaza.”
