My son has an upcoming eval there and I'm wondering what the deal is. Metal detectors or just signs I won't happen to notice? I'm not too keen on being in Baltimore shítty without "my little friend". Thanks dudes.

Kennedy Krieger is associated with Johns Hopkins. Very likely their policies would be same. Even Hopkins has no metal detectors, but you could call KK as a concerned parent.

A Hopkins employee told me KK is affiliated, but is not actually part of the jhu system.

"Hello, is this the Kennedy Krieger? I hope, for the sake of the childrens, you have metal detectors at the entrance"

I have been in multiple KKI buildings. Posted security up front at a desk. No metal detectors. No one has asked me not to carry.

The only places I've seen metal detectors at any JHH facility are the ERs/EDs. Even the entrance to the hospital right next to the ED entrance (just a few feet apart, but separated by a wall inside) doesn't have them.

Thank you very much for your helpful answer. To reiterate to the other gentleman responding, Kennedy Krieger is not owned by nor run by Johns hopkins. No assumptions can be made based on what Hopkins does.

Gotta drive dad to Hopkins Baltimore for some minor surgery next week. Hopkins. Baltimore. Trigger words.

Hospital is ok for carry right? Not ER?

The above posts regarding Hopkins state that there are only metal detectors at the ER entrance of the main campus and also at the Bayview campus. It seems like you should be okay

I just spent the night there with my son last Thursday. Main building, 801 has the signage and security, no detectors and never had anyone look through bags or anything in a half dozen visits. Similar at building 707 if that is where you are headed. Just do whatever. If you are going to 801 the parking garage is very secure and adjacent to the building. Other buildings you may need to walk a block or two. There is never a shortage of sketchy individuals and raving lunatic drug addled homeless. Twice I have literally been a moment away from drawing within a block of the place. Both instances were at night though.

I hope your son is well.

Last week I watched the security team at Bayview keeping an obviously stoned druggie from entering the ER. He kept trying and getting in their faces for good 2 hours. They were using a hands off approach but they would bunch up on him and herd him away from the entrance.

What's the Bayview ER to do with taking one's child to KK? I've been going to Bayview and JHH downtown regularly the !ast few years and neither have any in the hospital proper.
You mentioned that Hopkins was affiliated with KK. Is Bayview not part of Hopkins? I do not know much about the hospitals in Baltimore only that my FIL was taken to the ER two weeks ago and I had to go through metal detectors to enter.

I take my wife to Hopkins regularly for outpatient appointments, as well as for procedures. She has also spent a LOT of time inpatient, with me visiting her daily. I feel pretty familiar with Hopkins.

The only metal detectors are at the ER, and those are fairly new. I got caught with a pen knife there last year, and had to take it back to my car.

As for carrying a gun, I assume it's against the rules. They probably consider it a weapon, just like my penknife. Anyway, concealed means concealed. I have been carrying the last few times I've been there, and had no problem, because no one knew except me.

I consider it a very non-permissive environment though, so I'm a lot more careful about concealment there than at the grocery store.

Nothing. It's the habit of some people on this forum to just post stuff regardless if it's relevant or not.

Bayview is part of Hopkins. I only have visited one floor there but it is the main entrance (not to the ED) but there are no metal detectors.
