I went out this morning to shoot my 300 BO with both subsonic and supersonic ammo. Normally, the night before, I check out my stuff and install my can what I would be shooting. This time I just threw the can in the case and never looked at it. At the range, I put on a blast tube and fired a couple of hot rounds to blow out my muzzle device and then I installed the can. It has a cover and I still didn't really look at it. Next I fired two rounds of subsonic and looked for hits. I didn't see any. Thinking maybe this pistol had impact changes between subs and supers, I decided to shoot two supers. Again no hits on target. Then I looked at the can.
Thank God and the Griffin brothers for building a strong suppressor in the Paladin 300. It turns out that I had left my .223 cap on!
I guess it did help that I was shooting my own homemade 150gn lead P/C'd supers and 220 Berry subs. If I would have shot any of my 150gn Combloc boat tails, it may have been too much.
As it happens, the Paladin sustained no damage at all. The only evidence of anything out of the ordinary was some thin copper and lead shavings between the front cap and the first baffle. I am now in the process of painting the .223 cap white so this never happens again.
