Anyone know of a smith that is willing to check how safe a c&r is for use? My wife is very interested in firing a mosin Nagant revolver we have, it looks like it is in great arsenal refinish, but i don't want it to go catastrophic in her hands.

Bollinger's in Taneytown. Might be a trip for you.

I had them check out some c&r handguns earlier this year.

Scott's in Glen Burnie will probably do it - never dealt with them before.

    Both are IPs here.

It would be nice to know some local smiths around the area who can check out those older items.

Btw, re your revolver: From what I've been told there ain't no such thing as a Mosin Nagant revolver. The handguns are simply "Nagant,"; Mosin wasn't involved. Please let me know if that's wrong. Good luck.

If you want to start slow with your revolver and do a low pressure test fire, you can fire .32 S&W out of it. A standard .32 S&W will be a lot lower pressure that 7.62 Nagant or .32 H&R mag (which will also fire in the Nagant). Can't speak to the condition of your gun, but they are generally pretty sturdy guns and unless you work up a really hot load, I doubt you are going to see anything catastrophic... but I applaud your cautious approach... when in doubt, trust your gut.
