    Howdy all.

Had the pleasure of shooting a 9mm Government frame and was blown away at how little the gun moved. So naturally my mind wanders to things that can be worn on my frame and the Commander fits the bill perfectly.

I’m looking to settle on something in the $800-$1,000 range. FWIW, the 1911 I fired was the Springfield Ronin, and I was impressed, though know it can be made better over time. That aside, help me spend money. Should I pursue a build path?

2011 isn’t in the price range, yes I know capacity..ten round slim mags? Carry two on the body easy if ya had to with one in the gun.

I have been looking at the SDS Imports TISAS 1911A1 Tank Commander. I have wanted a commander since they came out way back when and all of the Tisas pistols get really good reviews. Most on Gunbroker are just over $400 for 9mm or 45 ACP.

Interesting, I have heard this a couple times, maybe I should read into. Probably spend about the same as the gun to make it

A brand new Colt 9mm combat commander is $999 MSRP. Which is in the OPs price range

As far as Tisas: every one I have looked at has been out of spec, with some parts not interchangable with other 1911s, and hrome that flakes off of "hard chromed" parts. You get what you pay for. Are they good for the money? Eh, sure. Are they good? No.

The Colts are definitely excellent pistols but the drawback to them is finding one. Colt sells every one they can make but then they seem to disappear only to resurface at above MSRP prices when they hit store shelves.

Compatibility of parts is a concern for sure. Out of spec can be worked on (our very own Rockzilla moved just north of me two hours).

I’d love the Colt but as mentioned they’re damn tricky to track down!

    Colt's, Tisas, RIA, Springfields.
You can use the Tisas, RIA as your "project" gun, shoot em, loosen them up
then take em apart, tune, shoot, tune shoot...repeat, change out some parts,
fit em..( not really in that order ) lock in a Ransom Rest, take the human factor
    out of the equation.
If you chose to go the Colt route pick up a 70's series one (older model)
EGW as your goto parts place...
Building one ..see if you can find all the parts. like a shopping list
building one can be rewarding, "you" get out of it what "you" put in it

Tisas like mentioned can be out of spec, basically a hit or miss propostion.
there's / was 2 in a shop down here used ( I have to check again ), in good
condition. was looking for project guns, got some spare parts laying around
    so we'll see.

as mentioned Colts ARE hard to track down, they do bring "high prices" in
most cases, the older ones do, tracked down a 38 Super National Match in
good condition, it went for a "crazy price" out of my league

Really want to get my hands on a 10mm 1911 at a decent price for a project gun.

I recently picked up a RIA tac ultra mid size 10mm for 650. It’s a really nice firearm for the price

Really looking forward to tomorrow my brother! Much to discuss and many pets to give pups.
