“There is no cause that matters more to Vice President Biden than guns,” said a spokesperson for the vice president in an email. “He has been in this battle for a long time and is the author of the last significant gun control legislation. Since Newtown, he worked to get 25 executive actions implemented and spent countless hours working with Congress to pass legislation to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable. And that is why he has continued to press for additional actions. This fight is a long way from being over.”

Guys .... I know it isn't news, but think about this for just a minute.

Many Reps are high fiving themselves because Reps have a strong field, and the Dems have a terrible field.

But they ignore the fact that a soon-to-be indicted felon, and a whacko Socialist both beat every Rep in the polls by a rough 5 point margin.

Yes, the number of people who will vote in a box of rocks with a D behind their name is a huge number.

Enter Biden. Crazy Uncle Joe. He can't speak for 10 minutes without sticking his foot in his mouth. It doesn't matter. He'll still poll 5 points up, and at least at the moment has no felony conviction pending.

Conservatives had better start worrying about running against the Dems some time soon instead of each other.

And if you really want to break into a cold sweat, consider the obvious path things are leading to: a Biden + Warren ticket.

    This.

    And this.

We have maybe five legit contenders and 10 people who are either crazy, seeking publicity, or making a bid for a cabinet job. If any of them cared about this country they'd gracefully bow out.

The only factor that looks positive is that the Dems don't have anyone who might get the nomination who will motivate the base to get off the couch and go to the polls. I would be willing to bet that African American and female turnout will be historically low. Of course, the dead will turn out in record numbers.

I agree with the above, and this is likely why they're doing their best to register newly naturalized citizens that traditionally vote Democrat (this is a WH initiative) ...

White House officials announced the start of a nationwide campaign on Thursday to encourage legal immigrants to become American citizens, which could add millions of voters to the electorate in time for the presidential election next year.

With about 8.8 million legal residents in the country who are eligible to become citizens, White House officials said they were trying to make it easier to complete the final steps to citizenship.

    ...

The White House is working with regional immigrant groups to organize more than 70 citizenship workshops and about 200 naturalization ceremonies in the coming week alone. Four citizenship ambassadors have been named, including Fernando Valenzuela, the Mexican-born former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers who recently became an American citizen after many years in the United States.

Also in the works are local initiatives to make immigrants feel more welcome, and a revision of Justice Department regulations that would make it easier for people who want to help immigrants naturalize to obtain credentials to provide basic volunteer legal assistance.

The officials said they had started the campaign this week because Thursday is Citizenship Day. But the White House is also aware of federal figures showing that about 60 percent of immigrants eligible to naturalize are Latino and about 20 percent are Asian, both groups that voted overwhelmingly for President Obama. Nearly a third of legal permanent residents eligible to naturalize are Mexican.

The campaign, which includes a blitz of television ads with a welcoming message for immigrants, gives Mr. Obama a chance to set up a contrast with Republicans vying to succeed him.

    ...

Several Spanish-language media outlets will be carrying Mr. Obama’s ads, including Univision, which has feuded with Mr. Trump.

They're looking for a wedge to fire up the base - and investing effort in a drive that could have been done immediately after the last Presidential election (using taxpayer money) right before the next one.

I think they've been testing the water to see how the gun issue will resonate with their base (expect to see more of this at the Democratic Party debate tomorrow) to draw their voters to the polls.

I think the gun issue has the tendency to fire up more Republican voters than Democratic voters, so expect them to court the Hispanic vote in a big way.

Doesn't matter. I expect/hope ratings to suck. It's going to be a snorefest. I'm usually interested in watching debates by both sides, but with the cast of characters they have running (yawn), I'm just going to wait for synopses from right and left news sources.

    Really?

Mrs. Clinton, meanwhile, trailed in four match-ups against Republicans. She trailed Mrs. Fiorina by 3 points, Mr. Bush by 4 points, Mr. Trump by 5 points and Mr. Carson by 11 points.

So... will he make a surprise visit to the debate tonight?

Anderson Cooper said that he has no plans on asking confrontation questions or getting the candidates to confront one another. Nice double standard there, CNN.

Anderson Cooper was a notable member of the Clinton Global Initiative.

    Shocker, I know.
