Sounds like a variation of "sweetheart" grips (clear plexiglass/lexan).

There are tons of variations of the 1934/35 Beretta, some worth several hundred, some several thousand.
And not a whole lot of literature on them either.

But if the gun is matching, non-import and decent original finish even with the wrong grips that's a good deal.

This collection is mind-boggling (and nowhere near all that he has):

It's a good quick reference if you have your smart phone with you while looking at one.

Did the grips look anything like these ... but maybe without a photo, or something like that, under the plexiglas?

What the hell ... may as well show the other side, too.

Good find! You did well at that price. Flipped the photo for you.
If you want a set of original grips to go with it head over to Evil Pay where there's a seller with 3 different pairs of original grips selling for under $40 on BIN with shipping.

The Crufflers Creed: Resistance is Futile :)

There's folks that collect those sweetheart grips so if you were so inclined you may be able to recoup some of the cost of the originals.

    Congrats...
