When this one popped up for sale I just had to jump on it as I’ve always been fascinated with battle damaged bring-back pieces. I’ve seen lots of sellers out there claiming their beater rifle with a cracked stock is “battle damaged”, but I think this one is pretty solid. Purchased it from a collector I trust who in turn purchased it many years ago from the widow of a veteran. According to the woman her husband had brought it back from Okinawa. No documentation unfortunately so it’s just a verbal story, but a very cool rifle nonetheless.
It’s a mummed and matching Kokura Arsenal 23rd series with original rubberized canvas sling. Damage looks pretty clearly to be a bullet that hit on the left side of the gun, piercing the sling and stock and taking a nice chunk of wood with it upon exit. The hole in the sling lines up perfectly with the hole in the stock. Damaged wood shows proper aging and dust collection. It’s nice and dusty and untouched just like I like them!
