Baltimore's Department of Public Works prints 2024 calendar riddled with glaring errors

It must be because the Baltimore schools that don’t have a single student performing at grade level are under-funded.

In other words, it’s Trump’s fault.

****I'm not from Baltimore, but went to school there (Grad school) for a few years and remember some of the employment drives for the local people there, mostly Summer help and Holiday help with hanging decorations, or just emptying the trucks carrying wreaths, ornaments, etc.. for Christmas or July 4th celebrations, etc.. It was decent pay for the day and several of my classmates along with myself did it for extra money, etc.. since we lived on campus.

Like a dummy, I asked my supervisor why they didn't hire all of the local kids and young men literally just standing on the street corners hanging out, seemingly all day long and sometimes on school days (they looked to be high school age or a bit older) and he basically said they are unemployable, do NOT want to work unless you pay them cash, or a lot of money for menial work in addition to not showing up, not showing up on time if they did show up, and just not being good workers. He essentially said many of those kids have a big chip on their shoulders and don't want to do menial work and would rather just be broke until something "big" comes around to make it "worth their while". Totally different mentality than people who have a better work ethic and are actually employable.

Ridiculous loser mentality that no question keeps a lot of people from ever having anything, or able to just get and keep a job, etc.. In olden days, people like that would starve or be forced to work, but in the USA we I guess just give them some money to exist and basically make trouble. Not good. The way to solve the problem involves some political suicide through removing some of their "aid" and insuring any able bodied people work or do something for the "aid" they are getting on their monthly stipend cards paid for by people who actually have to work for a living and give up a big percentage of their earned income in taxes.

As a govt. employee, I 100% concur. I also have some other thoughts about the how and why of the folks in charge down there but I keep them to myself. Let's just say that hiring or appointing someone to a position is based on many factors, competency to actually do the job not being one of them.

It is who will actually take the job...I know of one gentleman over the years that was more than qualified and should have run one of their major departments who outright refused the promotion on 3-4 occasions because he didn't want the headache of dealing with the politics..and the fact he would have tried to make wholesale changes to the department which would have pissed off just about everyone in the Dept. just because they would actually have to work instead of just sitting back and taking credit for work outsourced to subconsultants....
