I've always been an auto guy, up to now I've only owned one revolver; a Webley MkVI. But I'm also a Colt guy and have been intrigued by Colt New Service revolvers from the WWI era. Last month the opportunity to get two NS revolvers arose and I didn't hesitate.
The first is Colt Model 1917 that got arsenal refinished between the wars. Someone did one of the finest trigger jobs I've ever experienced on a military grade revolver. Thought the S&W Model 1917s were good until I pulled trigger on mine. This should be one fine shooting piece. Picked up a 1942 vintage holster, WW2 vintage lanyard, 1918 dated moon clip cartridge pouch and half moon clips to complete the rig. Got this puppy on GB for a $675 BIN price. Holster came from Simpsons (the Luger guys) and the rest I got from Evil Pay.
The other NS example is a much rarer Colt Model 1909 in .45LC. Only built for two years in 1912 and 1913, it was a stop gap purchase to supply troops fighting in the Philippines (pesky native Moros didn't have the decency to stop hacking away when shot with .38 rounds) until the new Colt 1911 auto was available in sufficient quantities. About 15,000 were sent to the Army as this one did. The Marines and Navy got about 1,200 each. She got a light refinish at some point in her life, was well done, as so many of these coming back from the Pacific were just beat by the jungle climate.
This one has a rig with a 1918 dated holster and pistol belt. Got this example at a Delaware auction (more Amish about) for a whole $450. Yikes! Even lacking an original finish it's worth quite a bit more than that.
