So what is the diffrance between a full auto bcg and a semiauto bcg?

The M16 is the FA carrier

Did anyone besides Colt even manufacture the crappy kind with the exposed firing pin and open back on the right?

Not to my knowledge. They are done like that to clear a Colt Sear Block installed in the LOwer Receiver.

Unshrouded Carriers were done by DMPS, Olympic, Bushmaster, and Colt

It's like Colt circumcised the carrier.

I find it kind of funny that some of the Colt fanboys religiously preach buying a Colt because it's mil spec. However, Colt definitely has the worst history of doing bizarre things to the design to make it not parts compatible with the M16. If competition from the generics didn't come along we would probably have 1/2 inch pins by now, a single stack mag, and one of those goofy thumb hole stocks.

You are correct, if it was not for competition Colt would still likely be neutering their AR's

To be fair until BCM, LMT, CMT, DD, Spikes, PSA, Noveske were around there was no one else that had the Q.C. Colt did for the major Parts such at the Barrels and Bolt Heads. Even with their neutered parts they were better built with the proper materials and testing.

In the late 90's the only ways to get a real Milspec Gun was to piece stuff together from a Colt to eliminate the Neutered stuff. Replacing the Upper Receiver and Lower Receiver with a Bushy (This eliminates the Large Non Milspec FCG Pin Holes, Non Milspec Sear Block and Non Milspec Large Takedown Pin Holes). Then one would replace the Bolt Carrier (NOT The Bolt Head, the Colt Bolt Head was Premium), and the FCG with a DPMS unit (Milspec Size and NOT a Notched Hammer).

There wasnt much choice with Rails so unless you wnet with a SUrefire Light Handguard or ARMS Setup you went with Stock Handguards unless it was a FF Tube. Most aftermarket Barrels were geared to Match SHooting such as Kreiger Barrels, you wouldnt be finding any Hammer Forged Barrels. WIth Mags you had just the crappy USGI and pretty much no one used a Sound Suppressor.
