AR Optics for long range

To help my old eyes out, I was thinking of a Leupold Mark AR 6-18X 40mm Mil Dot at just under $500.

Can anyone vouch for Leupold? or suggest another?

Leupold makes good glass. What ranges are you shooting at that you need 18x? The scope will be useless for anything under 100 yards.

That is a variable 6-18. All he has to do is dial back for closer distances.

That really is a lot of magnification for an AR that isn't a varmint gun; I went w/ a 3-9x Nikon on my BRO 20" upper.

Ive got the Nikon M223 3-12X42 on one of mine . Great scope and great price .

I also have Leopulds but for the 223/5.56 Id have to recommend the Nikon.

About a year ago i had the same dilema. I opted for the 16x42 super sniper scope. As far as bang for the buck you can't go wrong with these IMO. You can google and find a bunch of reviews on them. I also fought with getting just the right rings and found the badge ordnance ultra high rings to be the best for the AR platform. I have the combo on my Ar-10 and love it.

Leopold makes an excellent optic but many other companies do also. Check 'em out and see what is comfortable for you.

Good point, at a minimum their BDC reticle needs a dot in the center of each circle.
