Recently acquired a Ruger AR. No iron sights with picatinny handguards.
Added the Mepro RDS but I;m having a real hard time seeing targets at 50 yards!
At the range twice and still not zero'd to my satisfaction.
I'm considering a magnifier vs. switching to a scope or other optic.
It's primarily a SHTF set up with a probable range of 0-200 yds, max.
I don't know much about optics as my only rifle experience was M16 with irons back in the 70's I figured I'd stay with a platform I was comfortable with.
    Any insights would be appreciated.

I’m running an Eotech 3x magnifier on my AR and a Sightmark 3x on my M4-22…both with holographic sights. My eyes have sucked since elementary school and now in my 50’s I have gradient trifocals which I absolutely hate. Wouldn’t know what to do without the magnifiers…for me they work great since I can flip them down at close range and back up at anything 25+ yards.
