AR laws and Moving

I'm a little confused. Me and my dad recently finished building our first AR as a little father/son project. Now, being that we live in Maryland, and I'm only 19, the firearm is in his name and locked away where only he can get to it. The confusion sets in here: I have plans (hopefully they will come to fruition soon) to move to another state. Really any other state, as long as its not this one. If i were to do that, and i wanted to take the gun, would we have to notify the MSP? Or, since it would be legal for me to own the gun in another state, would it be legal for me just to take it?

Who is the lower receiver registered to? That would dictate the next step in a transfer, if one is needed.

It's registered in his name. I can't have one registered to my name.

Hummm . Of the top of my head there is a catch-22 . Your Dad can't transfer ownership to you while you are Md resident. You can own it once you are non-Md resident , but can no longer do a FTF .

So , move to another State , establish residency , and use an FFL in that state to transfer.

If you are going to be in MD for another 2 years, then you will just have to wait until you turn 21. Otherwise you are out of luck, unless you buy an HBAR in MD.
