IMHO, when you get your NICS check is next to meaningless. You will get it before your permit is approved and I’ve seen no evidence that having it early vs late in the process means anything. I got my NICS the day my application was accepted and still got approved with all the others in my acceptance date group whose NICS dates were weeks and weeks later.
