I’m not much of a revolver guy, but I thought I would try my luck at installing a spring kit for my S&W 442 J frame. All was going well until the trigger locked up. The more I messed with it, the more parts kept falling out until it was completely disassembled. Are there any good S&W Revolver gunsmiths I can take it to that can reassemble it?

    Thanks

I had my 686 apart the other night while I was removing the internal lock. No problem here. Good luck.

Even disassembled it is a fearsome weapon.... good luck with the repairs.

Hope it works out for you. Don't feel bad about not being able to get it back together. Sometimes there's little nuances that aren't obvious in directions or a video, or you really need three hands and a Lithuanian Elf to get it together. Ruger says their #1 phone request is help getting the Mk1 pistol back together. Looks simple, but the little nuances aren't obvious.

First time I took my Mk1 apart, it took me three days and all kinds of videos to get it back together.... since then, it is the one gun I clean only with spray solvent and a patch down the barrel :D

A Lithuanian Elf...that's what I was missing. I screwed up and tried using a Polish Pygmy, but now I know !

I sent mine back to Smith and Wesson.

    They repaired it free.

But then I didn't muck with it. It fell apart after shooting too much.

The Ruger Mk I IS tricky to get back together.

S&W revolvers are simple , albeit the rebound slide spring involves 20 min of cursing w/o the dedicated tool.

Added due to simultaneously posting .

"Fell apart after shooting too much " ? Do tell . Once upon a time I maintained a fleet of very high round count S&W' K frames, never had one Fall Apart ( nor ever heard of it ).

End shake , out of time , wear on various moving internals , in bad cases tolerence stack combining with short stroking to lock up . Usual ejector rods backing out , and crud under the star . Bent hammer spurs . But never one "Fall Apart " .
