Found it here in the MDS classifieds.
I still have a lot to learn about these but the seller put me at ease with his honesty and experience.
Based on serial number it was manufactured in April 1943.
Based on the stamps, armourer's marks and other evidence, it appears to be complete and correct - all parts Remington and from the correct time period. Doubtful it ever went through an arsenal rebuild. Barrel is stamped February 1943.
In addition to the rifle I came away with the case, a box of .30-06 and some stripper clips for it.
Thanks again to the Gentleman who sold me the rifle and for answering all my rookie questions. I couldn't possibly be happier with the deal.
