RESOLVED, That the membership of The American Legion urges our nation's lawmakers to recognize, as part of their oaths of office, that the Second Amendment guarantees law-abiding citizens the right to keep and bear the arms of their choice, as do the millions of American veterans who have fought, and continue to fight, to preserve those rights, hereby advise the Congress of the United States and the Executive Department to cease and desist any and all efforts to restrict these rights by any legislation or order.

I'm certain there are active duty military here. Guess what, not only are you automatically eligible for membership in the American Legion (and we need young blood!), the Maryland Department of the American Legion (ie, the state level) will pay your first year's membership dues. There are lots of benefits to joining the American Legion, not the least of which is that membership gives you the right to patronize any of the thousands of bar/restaurants (exceptionally inexpensive!) at American Legion posts throughout the country. If you are active duty in or near Howard County (American Legion Post 156), send me a PM and we will get you a paid annual membership. We at Post 156 are planning shooting events, softball games and cookouts at our grounds in Ellicott City, and much more for 2013!

But even if you are not active duty, the annual dues are only about $25 for eligible veterans. I urge you to join wherever you are.

Active Duty personnel and eligible veterans, please consider joining this very pro-gun and strong 2A advocate we have. Even without them taking a very noteworthy stance in our struggle against gun-grabbers and misguided politicians, if you are eligible, you should join. We are a very upstanding community service organization dedicated to our brothers-in-arms for the good of the entire nation. We are here for each other. We honor our community's outstanding law enforcement officials and firefighters with earned awards, protest military pay and benefit cuts, and promote veterans affairs and fitness and training for youngsters, to name only a few things. But above all, we celebrate camaraderie!
