Sorry if this question has been addressed, but I'm new to this Maryland nonsense.

If I need a 77R to start the background check for a firearm, but I don't know when I might come upon one that I want, why wouldn't I perpetually have one in the pool and ready to go? Is there an expiration date for a 77R?

I also just got approved as a collector to allow me to purchase more than one firearm every 30 days, so I also have that done. Any other tricks I should know to do as a second amendment proponent living in this state to make exercising my right easier?

I have one of the old time HQL cards. I keep a post-it stuck to the back of it with at least one app and PIN ready to go. Initially, I think they said the apps were supposed to expire after 6 months, but they don't. I asked my LGS about it once, and he said he's successfully run some that were over a year old. Personally, I'm not sure I could sit on one for a whole year :o but it's good to know

A 77R older than six months is like that bottle of nice wine that got stored standing up with a dry cork, on a bookshelf that gets sun every day. These things aren't meant to just sit there like that, dammit!

If all goes well, I'm burning one (and some hundred dollar bills) tomorrow.

Does having a prefilled 77R mean that the whole 7 days wait happens before what handgun you wish to buy? Its been years since I bought a handgun. My printer has been busy.

No, it just saves you from filling it out at the dealers. If you do keep a pre filled form on file, don't for get to keep the application number and pin in your wallet. ;)

No change. Clock starts ticking when you actually buy. Presenting the electronic 77R info you already have ready saves you the hassle of doing it online at the FFL.

This is exactly what I have done since I got my HQL. Great minds think alike!

I saw a C&R Item in a shop last fall and used one from the pool that was filled out in 2018. Yup, 2 years old.
Only issue is that back then the "do you have a Maryjuwanna card" was not part of the form. That popped up as an unchecked question and the Shop was able to click "NO" for me and process it.
    Went through, not a problem.
