AK74 Tapco Mag issue

Hey all,

Just picked up my AK74 this morning and have had some tapco mags sitting in my safe waiting to be used (30rd bakelite type). They will not insert into the rifle, and I already broke the tab off of one of them. Has anyone had any issue with Tapco mags and AK74's? The rifle is built off of a Bulgarian Parts kit.

Do you have any other mags to try out, and if so how do they fit?

Is there any interference internally on the trunnion or bullet guide?

As Rob suggested, try another brand of mag if you have one. The ak 47 mags I have from Tapco have all needed a little bit of filing of the tab to fit my mak 90, not sure if the 74's have the same issue or not.

Looks like the top lips are rubbing up against the rails.... now if I can just find my dremel tool....

I had the same issue w/ my Waffen Werks 74. Filed a tiny bit off of the locking tab and the Tapco mags fit perfect now.

Ditto . they would not lock in my M&M AK so I filed a tiny bit of plastic off the mag. Perfect now.
