I am about to start (as soon as the lowers come in) building two AR15s. One will be a sniper the other more of an urban tactical version.

I am seeking advise on parts to use. The following are my initial thoughts, but other than the lowers which are on their way, I am open to opinions on better ( or cheaper and equal quality) options.

    AR15 Sniper Build
    Head Down Products Lower
    VLTOR MUR Upper
Young Manufacuring M16 Chrome Complete Bolt Carrier - YM055B
    Shilen 20" Stainless Steel AR-15/M16 DROP-IN BARREL/BOLT SET, 1 in 8 twist
Magpul Prs Precision Gen 2 Stock
Daniel Defense AR15 Lite Rail Mid-X EXTENDED 10 Tactical Free Float Handguard

    AR 15 Urban Tactical Build
    Head Down Products Lower
    Head Down Products Upper
Young Manufacuring M16 Chrome Complete Bolt Carrier - YM055B
AR-15 16" M4 Barrel Beaver Creek Armory 5.56x45mm Chamber 1:9" Twist Black Oxide Finish
    Magpul ACS stock
Daniel Defense AR15 Lite Rail Carbine 7 Tactical Free Float Handguard

    Thanks! Have at it.

I can't really comment on the Young Manufacturing stuff, but wouldn't it make sense to get the Daniel Defense 12" Lite Rail for the 20" build? You should run a rifle-length gas system with a 20" upper. Hell, you could go longer with the rail, if you go with a low profile gas block.

Could always go for a fast twist on the barrles like a 1/7. Not sure what your price or criteria for the barrels are, but daniel defense and bcm sell plain barrels.

I wanted some flexibility in both barrels. 1:8 seemed enough for the heavier grain bullets without giving up the ability to shoot mid weight. Does 1:7 still allow midweight bullets?

I'd REALLY suggest going with a 1:7 twist barrel instead of the 1:9.

1:7 will allow you to shoot anything you want (other than a couple really fragile 45 gr varmint bullets).

I'd probably go with a VLTOR VIS Upper, but that's just me.

The advice I have here for CQB duty is a 10" 300 blkout upper and suppressor with 2 tax stamps.

    That's all.

I LIKE the Krieger barrels, they run great with Prvi Partizen Match. ;)

What about a NiB BCG for the urban carbine and a quality trigger group?

You're going to need some decent glass and steel rings for the sniper rig.

American Defense quick release rig with 20 MOA built in.

Is VERY NICE. I have one for my 34mm tube Bushnell (Horus) Elite HDMR

    It comes in 1", 30mm, 32mm, 34mm, 35mm, and 40mm iirc.

I have two of their quick release mounts and they are excellent quality for the money. I use them with an Aimpoint and a Vortex 4x; I would go with fixed steel rings for a high power scope.

I have a JP upper 1/8 twist and just gave a BCM 1/8 twist upper to my brother. Both stabilize 77 grain bullets. Any bullet longer than those you won't fit into an ar magazine.

As for the builds, since you're doing 2 anyway, why not make them even more specialized to do their intended function?

I'd do the battle rifle in 300 Blackout (add a suppressor and you have magic) and the precision rifle in 6.5 Grendel/264LBC-AR. Also, you could save money by ditching the rail system on the precision rifle; you don't need it/won't use it.

AR Sniper, although it's missing its .30 cal can...

.300 blackout with suppressor (Gemtech HVT, waiting on stamp)
    Z-80 Orion Scope
    LDM 100 mw IR Designator

What else do you want in a sniper build???
