If you want to save this bill start calling the Chairman and members of Judiciary tonight through tomorrow because I can only hold the bill up one day and I just did that. Del Joseph Vallario:

I urge you to bring HB-683 through.

Although the idea of having citizens concealed carry sounds 'scary' and may cause the emotional mind to conjure up all sorts of bad scenarios and thus deciding that it's dangerous for citizens to conceal carry, it is fallacy and contradicts the facts.

In the last 10-15 years, state after state in the country has gone from not allowing concealed carry to allowing itThe logical conclusion then would be that crime would go up and in fact it hasn't. The state police of many state were initially concerned after bills were passed about the idea of 'shall issue', but months and years letter they concur that it definitely didn't increase crime, and in fact reduced it, and the area where it tends to decrease crime are in urban areas.

I believe it was last year that Montgomery County, MD had a higher violent crime rate then in Fairfax County, VA where concealed carry is allowed. Right now, most of all the states that allow concealed carry (30+), will allow me to obtain a concealed carry permit! But my own State of Maryland has decreed I'm not worthy to protect myself. So as of right now, only the police (who have no obligation to be at my side when harm comes to me), the few holders of concealed carry permit that the state has deemed worthy, and criminals (because they ignore the law). After allow concealed carry, criminals 'learn' that there is now an increased probability, that the person that they chose to do harm, and will be able to defend themselves. Guess what, crime goes down!

I don't understand why we are so behind the times. While other states (up to 41 now) have relaxed their firearms laws over the years, Maryland keeps tightening it's firearm laws. The other states relaxed their firearm laws and it didn't cause any problems. Why doesn't Maryland? I just don't get it.

Why is it that Maryland and DC have the highest violent crime rates in the area as compared to neighboring states? Could it just be that those states allow concealed carry while Maryland and DC don't?
