Sad to hear this. The world has gone nuts up here! Down South the states are reacting with a lot more sense. People are reaffirming the need for the 2nd amendment. Maryland is full of socialist wackos. Its really frustrating. I encourage you to speak out. Let em know you disagree. I do all the time.

I have a freezer full of meat that would suggest the contrary. Head and neck shots.

If I were trophy hunting, it wouldn't be my first choice. For meat though, shooting does and culls, it's just fine.

Poor head shots leave deer without jaws. Shoot only the vitals regardless. Teach shooting on the vitals.

Here is my Robinson XCR in 6.8 SPC with which I hunt. I have a 5.56 concersion kit (barrel & bolt) that I can replace in less than a minute. I need to buy the 7.62x39 conversion kit for it.

I was talking to one of my employees yesterday, a very avid hunter. We were talking about the proposed gun legislation. He says, "well I agree with them about those banana clips..."

I told him, first its the "banana" clips then its his Benelli. After all, no one needs a semi-automatic shotgun.

I've told you guys a dozen times about public land here that you would essentially own because there isn't anyone at them.......I can lead a horse to water but........... :)

 i shoot all my deer on public land, particularly B.A.R.C. it is almost like a hunt club except it's free.

There is a common term for folks (that head guy in the hunting club that the OP spoke of) like that, that hunt with firearms but hate anything other than what they use. (ex. love their trap/skeet shotguns but hate Benelli M4 shotguns, hate handguns except for a nice Contender or a Freedom Arms hunting revolver, hate evil looking Salt Rifles, etc.) They are called Fudds. And the gun banners have had success in dividing us up. We have names like Fudd. Who knows what name(s) the Fudds have for us. I would prefer freedom lover.

I have seen Fudds close-up. Most just need some more information and experience, if they are open minded enough to listen. My best friend Shawn from Maine, his dad is a Fudd. His dad hunted deer his whole life in Maine but would not mind it at all if any gun not traditionally utilized for hunting deer was banned. And he ain't changing his mind about it. Hence, he is a Fudd.

It is a shame as we will hang separately if we cannot unite.

Well I just heard that the top guys that are in charge of the hunting club I'm in want to ban ar's from being used anymore at our camp for deer hunting. Right now I'm just thinking WTF but in the next hour it's just going to p*ss me off!!

The 223 chambered AR is banned in some States for Deer Hunting, howewer, you can use a higher chambered AR in those States, such as the 300.

Yes, I haven't looked at all state laws but in Maryland it is 1200 ft/lbs mzl. 55 grain bullets are a tad over that and 60 grain and up can hit around 1600 ft/lbs. that is for .223. 7.62 is a no brainier. I believe that is the standard for game up to deer. Big game is a .270 minimum in most states for larger game.

I thought .223 was a little short for the required foot pounds in Maryland, but you learn something new every day. I personally wouldn't use a .223 for deer, but would prefer something more powerful like .308.

I hunt in a shotgun only area, but I would love to drop a deer someday with my SKS, or even my M1A (just to cheese off the pinheads).

Technically you could be an Archer and a Hunter without being a shooter. Until they start banning assault bows with attached quivers and quick-releases.

I mean it is samantics but you have to shoot a bow. At least that's the only term I can think of. Just saying (with an argumenative tone) :)
