I just picked up a hi point carbine thats chambered 9mmx19. I'm not familiar with handgun cartridges, is this the same as 9mm luger ?

For what it's worth, if you're here in the US and you ask for 9mm, you will get 9x19 unless the person you're buying from is A) an idiot or B) a malicious a-hole with a good selection of ammo.

.380 auto is called 9mm short in Europe. There is also a 9mm Ultra. It is also 9x18, but different. Let's not forget 9x21.

Ah, but the Hi Point 995 can handle any commercially available 9X19 loads. So no worries there.

Ah, alas, Hi Point only guarantees that all FACTORY loaded ammo is safe, but I would like to see that video...

No manufacturer says hand loads are OK, no way to tell what is in the case.
