3 Gun Matches???

Sry if this is a double tap but, a couple of buddies and I are interested in getting into tactical team competative shooting. To the best of my understanding, a 3 gun match is shot with a rifle, shotgun, and pistol, am I right? Do you need to be sponsored, have any certain affiliations or anything along those lines? When and where do the competitions take place? And when is the next Md Shooters group shoot? Thanks guys....
