Here's my dilemma folks. I have a Mossberg 500 12 gauge that came with the factory 28" barrel with the Accu-Choke and it only accepts 2-3/4" and 3" shells.

What I want to do is find another barrel that will accept all three shell sizes (2-3/4, 3, & 3-1/2) Now, I am not extremely familiar with the 3.5" mag barrels, as in, will the 3.5" barrel accept the 2.75 and 3 as well ?

My question is, does a barrel like this exist or is this something that I am only going to find in the factory barrel and have to own an independent 3.5" chambered barrel ?

Is the 500 rated for 3 1/2" shells? The owners manual mentions 2 3/4" and 3" shells, not 3 1/2" shells. I think you are looking at something that doesn't exist.

I think one of their newer models handles all three shell sizes.

The model 500 receiver accepts 3" max. The 535 and 835 accept 3.5" max. All of the above will accept shorter than max. Be careful with the 3.5" chambered barrels, many are over-bored and you cannot shoot sabots or slugs (if you ever had occasion to)

If you are a handloader, you could squeeze a 3 1/2" shell out of the 3" shell by roll crimping and then it would eject from the 3" receiver.

That's exactly the info I wanted to hear. I left out a few questions and those questions were answered thank you both. Now to find a new shotgun for my collection.

Just an FYI - the 535 is about a pound lighter than the 500 (6.5lbs vs 7.5lbs). With 3 1/2" shells recoil is more noticeable. Not terrible but some folks don't like excessive recoil.

I'll agree. Some guys just can't handle it. The recoil doesn't bother me. The 3.5" shells in my Remington 870 turkey gun is fine all day.

Not sure about the 535 but the 835/935 shot barrels are 10ga overbored. I think there is a cylinder bore available for the 835 and rifled slug barrels are available for both.
