.223 Rifle Recommendations

I'm looking to get a .223 rifle for target shooting. I'm leaning in the bolt action vs AR style. I'm heading up to the Frederick show tomorrow and wanted to get some suggestions on what to look for while I'm there. I probably will look for something used rifle unless I can find a really good deal.

Since I've never bought a used firearm, I'm not sure what type of things to look for and to avoid.

I'd buy a Varmant AR or a Remington 700 for a bolt

I bought a Stag Arms 6H Heavy Upper so I have a great Combo w/Spikes Lower,Good Trigger and Spikes M4 Upper for Fun!

The Remington M-700 LTR makes a nice, handy .223 if you plan to shoot precision, and one of the Savage tactical rifles is a 20" as well.

That said, an accurate heavy AR-15 is a joy to shoot, but a pig to carry.

I definitely like the savage for a bolt gun, though with a HBAR/Varmint AR you can always switch uppers. I'd listen to Ed before you listen to me though

Hard to beat a savage for the price. I know several guys with LRPV's in 223 that are very happy with them, shooting jagged hole groups at 100 yards. I've also seen pretty good groups out at 600 yards with them too.
