Range Report!
After a long, arduous wait that included waiting for a gun to be produced, and a lot of Maryland red tape that involved me having the gun added to the Maryland Handgun Roster, I finally got my Dan Wesson 2020 Stainless Valor this week, and I got it out to the range today.
For anyone saying that the 2020 Valor doesn't hold up to the quality standards of the older model Valor, I'm not sure what your standards are because this pistol is nice! If I had a complaint it's that the barrel bushing is really tight but that's probably to be expected on an unfired pistol.
Simply put, the gun is more accurate than I am. If I do my part, it lays them right in there.
I know that for break-in DW recommends quality ball ammo - 230 gr jacketed round nose. I have none. What I do have is plated 200 gr RN that I reloaded - 4.3 gr of Bullseye, I think - I'll have to check.
I did all my shooting at 25 feet at an indoor range, and it's pretty much right there as long as I do my part. These are my best targets of the day. What this tells me is that I need to get to the range not to dial In my own shooting a bit.
I also shot some lead semi-wadcutter reloads, and it gobbled those right up too, and it had no issue with any magazine I used - it functioned flawlessly.
Side by side with my Silverback, I'd be hard pressed to say which would be "better" - they are both great pistols.
I will say that I wasn't sure if I was going to like the sights, but I found them to work really well, especially with that bright orange ring around the tritium dial on the front post. It popped right up and centered naturally in the blackened "U" of the rear sight.
I'm very pleased with it.
