I wold say, for long range shooting, always put a 20 MOA or so rail on it.
If nothing else, at medium ranges, you are in the middle of the adjustment range.
My long range .308 has a 20 MOA rail and with that, I have 15 mil up range with a Viper PST 6-24. And at 1200, I still need to hold over.
