Yeah, he was gut shot. Steep quartering away shot. I was aiming at the far front shoulder, but must have pushed it a little. He stopped 30 yards after I hit him and eventually laid down. Took him a while to pass. I didn’t want to get out of the tree and push him. I tried to put another bolt through him, but was short. I decided to keep my last bolt in case he was able to get back up. My uncle came over after an hour and circled around him. He was gone by the time my uncle got to him.

That's good news about him not going far; then disappearing and losing him. Glad that it worked out OK. I liver shot a buck once and it took me the better half of the day to track and find him.

Just had a doe come through my yard in a hurry. Not 30 seconds later a 4 pointer came cruising through after her. Guess things are really heating up!

    Deer hunt in the rain?

So I get a day off this Friday, and wola, it will rain for half inch. Should I even bother to go hunting for deer? Thanks.

Just be extra careful not to take marginal shots in the rain. It could wash out the blood trail. For a bad tracker like me that's a consideration.

Dont be surprised to find them using open areas during rainy days.Sense of smell and hearing is compromised. They make up for it with a good spot to see.

Shot a small buck this afternoon. After sitting in the rain all morning it felt good seeing something this afternoon. Ended up shooting a small buck. Blood trail wasn’t bad. At the end of early muzzle loader I tool a doe. The ballistic extreme did its job well. While dropping off the small doe at the butcher I picked up the doe and my euro from late muzzleloader from last year.
