    I like it.

Looks like yours has better ergonomics in the grip than mine, like the cutouts there behind the trigger. Does it take a single stack mag?

It is a very early build when Springfield first started making V-16 Longslides in .45 Super. They are fairly rare and this one is even more uncommon as it is a NM serial # (US build) and has the front strap checkering from the factory. Initially only one distributor received them from SA and I was told it was the first one sent to Maryland. I have no proof of that, just the word of the rep at the distributor.

The grip in the Super photo is a Pachmyer which I tried for a while. The front strap is checkered under that grip which most people prefer. However, when I started using a 1911 in classes I found that ergonomically it doesn't work well for me with a standard 1911 frame (yes, it is single). My hands are too big for standard grip panels and trigger. I have since been switching all of my 1911s to Hogue grips and a long Caspian Trik Trigger, which I find fit my hands best (see example photo on TRP Operator below).

    This is downright sexy!

What coating is on this? Does anyone know looked at the website and it was a lot of pics but not much else.

I would change the grips out as well but I like the pistol a lot!

Mr Rogers is a world renowned 1911 Pistol Smith. You should ask him abou the coating but whatever it is inst something cheap. If I had to guess the gun you are looking at costs at least $5,000.00 and may even approach $7,000.00

And if you want one you will be on the waiting list for years, if he is even excepting new orders.

If I was getting a finish I would look at Metloy for Hard Chrome , Robar for NP3 or Dave severns for the hard Hat finish. I believe these finishes are a first quality job . I have a hard chrome pistol and a guy I shoot with has a hard hat job I also have seen Robar so I have held and actually seen them . I don't think the prices are to bad for the work you get.

This is the one I just waited six-weeks for:

Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical FS
So far just a little of the wife's hot pink nail polish on the front blade.
Waiting on grips, extended mag release and extra mags.

With all these 1911s here, maybe this is a good place and time to ask. I fired my new RIA for the first time yesterday. 50-rounds of lead round nose then 50-rounds of FMJ. With both I had more than a few 'premature slide locks' and/or failure of the slide to fully return forward.

The first time happened while my wife was shooting (she did great, btw). Right away I thought limp-wrist hold. But then it happened to me and her again and, a few times, the slide actually locked back with the slide stop fully engaged as if the mag was empty, but it wasn't. The pistol has a really nice ramp and it wasn't a case of failure to feed.

I'm 99.9% sure that the round nose stuff is bumping the inside tang of the slide lock into the up and locked position. I've read that this is not that uncommon and all the symptoms are there. Should I take a shot at filing a little meat off the tang? Any thoughts?

If you have to ask where and what to do then you really shouldnt be doing it in regards to Gunsmithing.

Use a different projectile or load. If its reloads stop using them and use factory ammo and diagnose the issue. Dont start filing or grinding anything.

Yeah, that's why I asked. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that the slide stop doesn't have anything at all resembling a detent for the plunger to fit in.

In any case, I'm not really eager to do any shade tree Gunsmithing. I've done lots of bolts on's and drop in's (and restored and raced a muscle car), but if this continues, I'll just take it into the smith where I bought it.

Ammo shortage being what it is, I first shot the 50-rounds of re'man lead round nose then 50 of UMC 230-gr FMJ. My thinking was, first time out I wanted to see what would foul it or choke it then work my way up from there.

Other than the slide locking, the RIA Tactical FS is sweet. My wife had never shot a 1911 and hadn't been shooting with me for a couple of years (yeah, I know). She put the first eight in a 6-inch circle at 25-feet. She later commented that it just felt so natural to point. Yep - Thank you, Mr. Browning.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled gun porn...
