Hello all, I am asking this question for my father who is trying to find the correct stock for his Springfield 1903. He found one on eBay that seems to have all of the correct features however at the very end of the stock just under neath where the barrel would be is stamped "RI". I think that would mean its a Rock Island manufactured stock. Can anyone else confirm that RI stocks were marked in this manner? Thanks.

That is my understanding of the RI. If he is looking for the absolute most correct stock, there is much more to look for than just manufacturer, like the type (scant, C, semi-pistol grip) as well as slight variations in each type as well as the handguards. I know enough about them to know that I don't know enough to help you, if you know what I mean.

EBay stocks can come with very mixed levels of satisfaction, especially depending on your expectations.

A finger GG stock with an "RI" stamped on the foretip is indeed a Rock Island Stock circa 1917-1919.

If you need anything else let me know.

PS - What SN and manufacture does his rifle have. And barrel date?

I checked the SRS nothing really close.

There's a bit of a huge gap in the 1341xxx range.

I'm trying to remember the correct cartouche for that particular SN range, I want to say Boxed SA JFC. Coyle was an inspector at SA until the late 30s, But I'm trying to remember if that cartouche is correct for that particular SN.
