    Yea or nay?

Smaller diameter than 9mm and .380 but enough more powder to give the similar terminal ballistics as 9mm. Most magazine dimensions should allow 20% more rounds in the same grip size.

S&W has already jumped on the bandwagon with an M&P EZ version chambered for it. Certain to be more to come.

Smaller diameter with higher velocities has shown deeper penetration in ballistic gell tests, so some people fear the possibility of more thru shots and the danger this presents. The deeper penetration is not really dramatic the concerns may not be warranted.

Try it if you want. My concern isn't ballistics, it's supply. Remember .357 Sig? Yup, a new cartridge that was cool but didn't take off. Ammo isn't impossible to find but it's not common, either. Same story with .22 TCM. I know a guy who has one of those. Luckily it came with a 9mm barrel, too.

I have no idea where the new .30 will go. But if it doesn't take off, you might have an orphan pistol on your hands.

Agreed. But if manufacturers are able to make conversion kits with barrels, mags and extractors for existing guns, it wouldn’t be so bad, just like the example you provided

A convertible pistol would be cool.

I've had the .357 Sig - sold it during the recent panic. And I have a Single Seven in .327 Federal, not exactly a household name. So I do get it. It's a risk, but not a very big one.

As already mentioned, we saw things like this before. The .45 GAP, 6.8 SPC, .41 Action Express, along with others, failed to survive.

The only way I would consider this caliber is if they make a pocket pistol similar to my Ruger LCP II for it. A S&W Shield size makes no sense since the Sig 365 made its arrival.

HEY , 6.8 spc is not like the others ,LOL . it's not a bad choise for a medium range cartrige , still loaded by major companies , don't hurt my feelings , LOL.

It's very sound, and IMO the best use of modern tech. It also SAAMI specs up to 50K PSI, and the case dimentions should make it really efficient. Modern bullet designs gave 9mm the same ballistics that met FBI spec as 40S&W, but with better capacity, this ended up killing 40, this is the next logical step. Seems to be about the smallest round that can concistently meet FBI performance with modern powder and bullet designs, and basically duplicate 9mm performance. I hope it takes off, at minimum it should give a couple extra rounds, but if a pistol was to be designed around it, like the P365 was around the 9mm, you could have a wonderfully compact and potent carry pistol. That is really my main issue, not a fan of the few pistols chambered in it. Still remains to be seen if it will be adopted, and ammo availability / price will be stupid at first, but options are good, and hope it takes off.

That's a little funny, simply because during the peak of the panic .357 sig was cheaper and more commonly available at shows than 9mm, .40, and .45. I posted about this during the worst of the ammo drought.

It wasn't cheap, but due to lack of demand it remained at or near pre-panic prices while the panicking herd drove the prices on other pistol rounds sky high.

If someone were to make a conversion kit for Glock like they do with the 22 tcm9r or the 460 roland that might increase sales but even those two calibers are niche.

I have the conversion upper for 22TCM9R for the G17 frame.. with Glock pistols being so easily converted for other calibers there's no reason why this couldn't be done but I doubt it ever will be. .

I would have doubts about a 30 SC pistol being any smaller than the current micro 9s like the 365 for 2 reasons:
    1) The chamber will probably have to be the same outer dimension as the 9s because of the dramatically higher pressure of the cartridge.
    2) I believe the micro 9s are already sized (grip size and mass) to accomodate recoil management/grip. Guns with the same recoil will need the same.

The reason to make guns like the EZ in 30SC is more rounds in the same size mag/gun grip. Certainly one could just buy a longer mag, but some people don't want a mag hanging out below the bottom of the grip like a 30 round Glock 17 mag.

We will see if Glock makes a 433 and if SIG makes a P363 LOL
