Muzzle brake, flash suppressor, compensator, I need suggestions for a reasonably priced, non bank breaking, 5/8x24 thread device. This will be for an AR-15 barrel, 13-1700 ft/lbs energy, 25-2900 FPS velocity. Oh and did I mention I'm a cheap bastard.:innocent0

This does not sound like 223 or 5.56x45. This sounds like .30cal, maybe 300 AAC?.

No to all the above. I won't disclose just yet, but there's 1 member here who knows what it is and he's not a Hooligan, matter of fact I've never met him.

Hard to answer the question without knowing caliber.

Almost all the 5/8x24 muzzle devices I've come across are for .30 cal, although a few will allow 338 Lapua. The hole in a muzzle device designed for 308 win or 30 cal is about .330 in. The hole for one designed for 338 Lapua naturally has to be bigger, probably .360 in.

If <=308 or 7.62, then there are about 3 dozen on primary arms.com that are likely to work, many under $40. There are a few that are designed for 338.

It's less than 30 caliber but bigger than 22 caliber.

any .30 cal muzzle device ought to have enough clearance (.330 hole). I will guess 6.8 SPC based on ballistics and thread.

In any event, some reviews I found which I posted in another thread:

    I think I'm smelling Creedmoor...:innocent0

    Also a good guess.

.25-45 sharps would be my guess. I thought 6.5 creedmore called for an AR-10?

For muzzle device, narrow it down. What the hell kind? Flash supressor, linear comp, muzzle brake? If just "pick any" I'd go with a KAW valley linear comp for a .30, that'll work fine on a smaller caliber as well. It is what I am looking to put on my .223 AR-15 down the road. Don't need a brake at under 2500lb-ft. A comp for muzzle climb isn't a terrible thing, but I am not 3-gunning it. I DO hunt and I can't always have ear pro on every time with hunting, so reducing the dB at my ears is always a good thing. Also wish my setup I have a 20" barrels so I don't really need a flash supressor.

Ebay has listings that start at $14.99 with free shipping. Most are advertised as 308. At first I thought you were building a 300 win mag AR, but the ballistics are way off. Whatever it is, good luck!

    What a co-ink-e-dink!!!!!!!!

A good friend of mine has a Ruger Scout in .308 and he is taking off the "flash hider" and when he called Ruger, they said that the threads were 5/8x24.

He's looking for just a thread protector, for his Ruger.

I'm telling ya its the 6.8 Remington SPC. Gotta be. It's the only cartridge with those ballistics that runs at the AOL of the AR mag. That's why the bullet is set so deep into the brass. 6.8 is equal to a 27 caliber too. The 6.8 barrels also have a 5/8" x 24 thread for a suppressor or brake.

It's the round the military wanted to replace the 5.56 round with. It's a nice compromise between the 5.56 and the 7.62 x 51.

    What do I win? ;)

I already guessed 6.8 SPC and the answer was nope.
