For a new shooter, 9mm probably a better choice. All things being equal, the 40 tends to have more felt recoil and muzzle flip.

    9 vs. 40 vs. 45?

When you think about it the question can be easily answered mathematically. For example:
    • 45/40 = 1.125
    • 1.125/9 = 0.125
    • 0.125 - 0.0309 (the inverse of the frictional coefficient of Alox lubed boolits vs. FMJ's)= 0.09410
    • 0.09410/Pi = ...you guessed it... 3%

Of course there is a much easier formula that clearly defines the answer:

    5 X 9 = 45.

If the bullet doesn't get them, the fireball will.

Yeah, best guess is the performance would be roughly that of a 5.7FN

More case capacity, but slower burning powders. Now if you loaded up a cartridge with pistol powders for that like .223 handgun...

No matter what, it would kind of suck.

    On the .50BMG handgun...:wtf:

I'd imagine even with the big comp that would be likely to break wrist bones.
