I do not like the marlins tube magazine. Jams ( yes, they jam) are hard to clear and having to lift that brass tube to load sucks. I also see some people holding the gun by the muzzle while loading. Its almost impossible to load the gun while keeping the muzzle pointed downrange.

If you like accessories, not much available for the Marlin. Once you buy it, it pretty much stays the same way until you sell it.

10/22 rifles... You are pretty much limited to your budget and imagination.

If you have a jamming problem then there is a problem with the action. Go to rimfire central and you can find a power point on how to take your action apart, clean it and reassemble. Lots of info there on fixing jamming probs to.

The 60 is mostly limited to stock setups but once in a while Boydes has some nice stocks for them. If you go to the rimfire page here then Rimfire Porn thread you can find my 60 with a thunmbhole stock and it looks great. I can't post a link because this hotel puter thinks the rimfire porn thread is PORN.

I had a good experience with my Marlin model 60 today at Continental.

I tried Fiocchi's .22lr High Velocity hollow point 38 grain copper plated bullets. I fired a hundred rounds with zero problems, this is the best performing ammo in my gun so far. This is the 5th brand I have tried.

Hopefully, I made a love connection!:)

Continental sells them at $3 per box of 50.

    Better option: Marlin 795
I've thought about that, but oddly, I think I prefer a tube magazine.

I'll put a bit of time into this endeavor tomorrow seeing what's available out and about in the area. Maybe someone has something decent used.

After reading through the thread I'm probably still leaning toward a Model 60, but if the right deal on a nice 10/22 comes up, I won't snub my nose at it.

(For that matter, I probably wouldn't snub my nose at the 795 either)

Someone posted the Ruger SR 22 - interesting gun, but more money than I want to spend and not really my style, although I'm sure it's a fine .22.

Well, it would appear the debate is over for me. I stumbled into a decent enough deal on a nice used 10/22 deluxe, so I bought it. :D

Pics to follow, probably this evening, although it's a 10/22 - it's not like we don't know what they look like, right? :)

Well, then....to us Marlin 60 folks, you suck. :D

Post pics anyway. It's always nice to see when someone brings a new baby home.

Heheh - I can be a marlin 60 guy eventually too, right? :D If it hadn't been what I felt was a pretty decent deal on a rifle selling used that looked new (has the box and everything that came with it from the factory) I probably wouldn't have jumped on it, but as it is, I just couldn't pass it up. Of course the fact that I really really wanted a new .22 rifle didn't really hurt.

Ok - here are a couple of pics. There's some interesting figuring on the stock right behind the pistol grip. It's not exactly attractive figuring, but it does at least make it a bit more distinct. I think I'm gonna love this little rifle. :)

Nice choice the ones that have the metal trigger guards are much better than than the newer ones!

Didn't realize they had made a change - now I'm double happy that I opted for the used gun. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever buy any gun brand new - everything I have was used when I got it, with the exception of the 870 Wingmaster youth model 20 guage my Dad gave me when I was just a kid.

    Hey, Beanie Babies!!!!
Ugh - unfortunately yes - Beanie Babies. :sad20: My wife had Beanie Baby fever and had delusions of grandeur that she was going to find and sell the rare ones and use the money for my kids' college funds. Of course we all know what happened there. That's like saying I'm going to fund my kids' college by buying and selling "rare" Ruger 10/22s and Marlin Model 60s. :lol2:

They sure look nice all dusty on that rack though, don't they? :D

there's a video i made when i had to replace the hammer in my 795. It gives you a look at the internals and how easy the marlin is to work on if anything needs replacing.

    My .22 choices:
    1) Out of the box .22 plinker- Marlin 60/795. Microgroove rifling works well with lead bullets and is more accurate than stock 10/22. You can still find aftermarket stuff out there, but not at all near the availability of a 10/22.

    2) Learning to tinker and build up rifles- 10/22 can't really be beat. You can just buy a reciever and build everything else to make a cool-looking/accurate rifle from aftermarket parts. they're fairly easy to do most anything to and a great platform to learn to work on rifles.

    3) tacticool .22 zombie-squirrel slayer- smith m&p15/22. Cheaper than building up a 10/22 to look cool and be accurate plus a valuable trainer for the ar platform.

    4) Small--hole puncher- cz-452 or 453 if you want that weird settable trigger. crazy-accurate for the money and will punk most everything else but an anschutz.

That right there is an excellent answer.

Though I still say the 10\22 if you only want one gun.

+1. The 10/22 is the Barbie of .22 rifles. It can be as mild or wild as you like for affordable cost. Mine's on the mild side for now as a beadblast SS model wearing an OD Green Hogue stock with Bushnell glass.

I'm not sure how much I'm going to dress up this one - I kinda like it just how it is. I've seen some really nice workups that actually use the Sporter Deluxe stock, only they route it out for a heavy barrel - I think those look really nice because I'm a wood kind of guy.

Now that I have popped my 10/22 cherry, I'll keep my eyes open for a good deal on a Model 60, and probably another 10/22 - even getting a beater for cheap would be ok because the next one will be a project gun.
