Hey everyone maybe moving to California MD area from Stafford VA looking forward to less traffic but not the liberal laws/taxes/etc.

I will be adding to the pool of conservative voters so that’s a plus!

Any advice on the move? Schools? Places to live?

    Thanks!

    1. Bring $$. I live in California, MD. Southern MD around the base is not cheap.
    2. I personally like Wildewood, but YMMV. The new sections are crowded...but not as cramped as some other developments. The older sections are nice.
    3. Public or private schools? The public schools are so-so. There are excellent private schools.
    4. Get onto the waiting list for Sanners Lake Sportsman Club. Good club, the only place to shoot in the area.
    5. Traffic is a bear...during rush hour, it's inside-the-Beltway bad.
    6. If you're asking about schools, you're probably married. Good. This place is infamous as one of the worst places possible for a single man to get a date.

Welcome to Southern Maryland, (and sorry you are departing from a free state)
If you are planning to rent an apartment, the Hollywood/California area along Rt 235 is probably your best bet. (despite being over-built)
If planning to purchase, there are several housing alternatives to the California area, many of them are far more rural: the Mechanicsville area is a relatively short drive (north/west) of the Naval Base, Hughesville is just a bit further up Rt 5. A local real estate agent could point you in the right direction.
    Good luck on your search.
