At some point there has to be a debate about the nation's highest court being populated almost entirely by folks from the New York/New Jersey/Harvard/Yale/Stanford Law axis.

In addition to the Ivy League warp, SCOTUS is populated with Catholic and Jewish justices in a way that does not reflect the country as a whole.

Heck, this country is so fragmented now we could never have a representative court with only nine justices. We'd need about 3 dozen.

Obviously I'm concerned about the future of the 2A, but I'm equally concerned about the court smacking Obummer's peepee on EO's.

He's gonna ride this country hard and put us away wet.

Then it's our country's duty to buck him to the ground.

Anyone floated the idea that he might not have passed away naturally in his sleep?
After hilabitch got smoked in new Hampshire, maybe their side is thinking the GOP wins the white house and they'd better get another justice in while they can.

    I think that's a bit extreme.

I think that the Democrats feel confident that the Sanders supporters, seeing Trump, will fall in line for Hillary.

The senate will roll over, they always do. We are well and truly fscked now. You can kiss personal liberties, not just the 2A, goodbye. Dear Leader probably shot a load into his drawers and then started giggling like a school girl.

I fear this is just another sign that you can stick a fork in the US, we're done. All that's left now is to see how far and how fast it all goes down hill. I pray for my grand-kids.

McConnell's comments worry me. It's the typical posture-now and flip-flop later BS that's never going to stick.

O-hole announced he'll send a nominee to the Senate. He could really screw with the election with who he sends to the Senate.

He can't pick an established socialist radical like the wise latina, or Kagan, as much as he'd love to. It won't reach a vote, let alone confirmed, and will hinder Democrat chances in the fall by making an even bigger mockery out of the court. Put another way, he can't pick ANYONE with ANY kind of baggage whatsoever.

So, we can exclude all radical jurists from consideration.

Truthfully, he doesn't really need to appoint a radical anyways. He just needs to appoint someone slightly left of center. That alone will have a profound impact on the court. If that's his goal, and he can do it in a way that maximizes his political capital as a lame-duck, it's the course that makes the most sense.

So, he'll appoint someone whose paper trail and appearance makes them look slightly left-of-center.

He won't want to pick someone old. This is common practice for SCOTUS appointees.

So, he'll pick someone in their early to mid 50's, if not younger.

Consider the way things would play out...

If he appoints a "middle of the road" jurist, or at least if that's how the f-ing media portrays them - and the Senate blocks the vote, we get spun as obstructionists. And, since there are several Senate seats on the ballot this fall (which O-hole won in 2012), raises the odds that we lose both the Senate and WH.

So... I think a very strong possibility is for him to nominate Sri Srinivasan. He's 48 years old, sits on the DC Circuit COA, has only been on that court for 2-3 years (and was confirmed unanimously) so there's very little paper trail, would be the first immigrant-citizen nominated to the court, and only has a paper trail for supporting SSM.

God help us... if he gets confirmed, you can bet that Ginsburg and her ilk will take Kolbe and any other 2A case they can in short order. DC will petition for cert in Heller 3, and will then pass another handgun ban so they can argue for Heller 1 to be reversed. We're completely effed if that happens.

    This is really really bad!!!!!!!!!!!
