Lesson learned: China can kill us without firing a shot. Just cut off the medicines we rely on to live. They have threatened to do just this. If only we had a President who would try to break China’s hold on us. Oh...right.

Interesting tidbit I found online was that, in a pinch, bipap machines can be used as ad hoc ventilators in emergency situations when you can't get the real thing. They were apparently widely used in China, and have been indicated for use in guidance by WHO, CDC, etc.

Just realize that you're aerosolizing the virus at that point, so you need to vent the damn room and probably realize that you're giving it to everyone else nearby. But if they're going to die, it's not a bad last ditch resort.

To a degree. It assists the breathing patient. It's not going to help if they aren't breathing. Also it may not be effective enough compared to intubation and ventilation. Severe ARDS may need that along with paralyzing drugs and prone position.

Everyone has 2 weeks to prepare for the virus to be imported into southern Maryland. :ninja:

Meh, was just picking-up MM Jr. at his school. Half of the 70+ kids in the cafeteria waiting to be retrieved were coughing, hacking, and sniffling. He's complaining of a sore throat. So if I'm not getting Coronavirus, I'm getting something else ... probably strep. yay.

Oh, for sure. But if the hospitals get overloaded, it's better than nothing.

This afternoon I added the top two shelves to this storage shelf. I'm in the process of moving all my preps from the utility room to a spare bedroom in the basement.

That display is too pretty to eat. Make you remember that it's primary purpose is to be consumed when in need. :innocent0

Here is a second shelf that I'm still building. I think I'll need one more after this to hold everything I have stored now.

How come there are not the screw on type of lid on all? I notice some look like they only have the top.

The rings can present a false seal for your lids. If a jar has a bad seal, you want to see a popped lid and moldy food. The rings are for temporary closure after releasing the pressure seal of the lid.

Edit: Rings also required for the canning process itself. Doh!

Thats all you need for canning. The screw top just holds the lid in place until it seals. I take mine off too to wipe around the rim before storage.

Yep, basic canning. The ring holds the lid on in the water bath. The contents heat and "burp" steam being boiled off. Let it cool a little, and the contents vacuum-seal the can with a satisfying *ploink*. At that point, the ring should be loose and is no longer necessary to keep the lid on - differential pressure will do that. Do not eat the contents if the lid doesn't stay depressed (it'll pop up an be bouncy if the seal is compromised.)

What everyone else said. I leave the ring on for 24 hours while the jar cools after processing and then take it off, test the seal of the lid, wash the jar with soapy water, and then store it.
