Black Powder and smokeless propellant are bulky, inefficient explosives compared to modern HE's, and in any case, a complete ban on them wouldn't accomplish much since it's easy to manufacture BP from scratch.
It would be like banning fuel oil because someone made a bomb with it, while kerosene, diesel fuel, and gasoline were still widely available.

If they can't ban the gun then their go after everything else. No bullets no crime. You can have the gun to protect yourself but only in your house and you can only throw it at the crooks. Less lethal that way.

Im not condoning any lives lost but OKC bombing was far more devastating than this...as was 9/11. Yet airplanes still fly and we still buy fertilizer...
