I have had two Tauruses.....one a 1992 model 66 .357 that was awesome. Felt like a Smith. The other was a model 44, .44 Magnum with a ported 4 in barrel. Shot fine, ported barrel and cushy grip helped with recoil, but the gun itself felt cheap. No mechanical issues, but I just didn't like the feel.

Older Tauruses are fantastic. I would not have an issue with the OP's little Taurus as a nightstand gun, but I would most certainly fill it with .38s

I have an LCR in .38 -- snappy to say the least---.357 ought to be very unpleasant, but fun to shoot a couple times then stick to .38s

Taurus has stepped up their game in quality control and the quality of their guns. Rebranding the company has done wonders. We sell loads of their revolvers, and I’ve shot the dickens out of mine. A model 66 7-shot 357 matte black finish and 6” barrel. Mucho fun to shoot.

From my experience there is often a world of difference between the quality of their larger traditional revolvers like the the 66 and the little snubbies like the 85's. Just my opinion. In any case if I were going to buy one I would definitely buy it from a storefront where I could inspect it first and not online.

    This.

For that price go get a Taurus 66 in 4in or 6in from Gym Ratz. I picked up a 6in 66 in matte black last month myself and love it.

If its a "clone" I would trust it. If its one of their own design only if it was given to me. I love the 92 series "Berettas" they make and I have fired their 1911 and enjoyed it.

Yup. My four inch steel Taurus (technically Rossi made by Taurus) R971 in .357 that I got from you is a great shooter with either 38 or 357.

I put a lot of rounds through their 9mm 1911 a few years back and it was great gun

You think the quality is there for the price to buy it and rarely shoot it after an initial test fire? Any thoughts?

All kidding aside, if a one-time-use, junk drawer revolver for under $400 is what you want, it seems decent enough to suit that purpose.

Eurotrash-techno soundtrack should be right up your alley. :D

    I don't see how .357 is better than .38+P in a snubby.

The Smith and Wesson 642 is similar in price and a great alternative.

And in theory, he could shoot 38 +P out of a 357 stubbie. I'd do the same.

Because he's interested in the Taurus DT for its looks, I think he's just asking if people have direct experience with this model to understand if it's reliable.

I do agree that the 442/642 revolvers are great options for 5-shooters. There's even a 442 with a blued frame and stainless cylinder that one might consider.
