Here's Ole reliable.....A Browning A-Bolt chambered in .243 (of course). More white-tail have dropped to this than anything else in my safe. Now, I need a Browning with something other than "Made in Japan" stamped on the barrel (and another safe!).

I bought my dad one just like it in 25-06 one year for Christmas.

Browning guns had been made in Belgium since John Moses Browning visited FN in 1902. In fact, he died in Belgium. He designed the Browning Hi-Power for FN. In the mid-1960's Browning entered a manufacturing agreement with Miroku in Japan. Miroku is an old and respected manufacturer of firearms. Models previously made in Belgium started to be manufactured in Japan.

During WWII, Remington was making Browning weapons.

Now, Browning is owned by FN Herstal, as is Miroku and Winchester Arms.

Thank you for that bit of history. If you are aware of any good books on the subject, please do share some titles.

    1. Remington 700 VLS (pre X Mark trigger from the 90's)- .223 Rem. - I personally would not use it for deer, although some people use .223. That rifle is accurate enough to put a pill right into a deers eye socket.

    2. Remington 700 BDL SS (Pre X Mark Trigger from the 90's) 30-06

    3. Remington 700MLSC (Muzzeloader) .50 cal. Converted it into a .209 system.

    4. Browning BAR .270 Win. My least favorite rifle. Im not a big Semi Auto centerfire rifle fan. This one is a Belgium made model - not Portuguese.

    5. T/C Encore - 22-250 Rem. Another one I personally would not use for deer, but some people do. Going to convert it to .308 scoped handgun this Spring.
