Has anyone here been out to the Front Sight resort in Las Vegas? It looks pretty awesome and I'm interested in maybe taking a Vegas vacation and squeezing in a course or two.

Would love some input if anyone's been.

It looks interesting. I haven't been yet but am planning a Las Vegas vacation for the winter to get my Nevada CCW permit and I'm looking to take the training class at Front Sight.

I do know they have class certificates for 50 or 100 on eBay. Check that out before you go.

I went to their Instructor Development Course in 2003 or 2004, which I didn't know it at the time was essentially a hiring process for range officers. I did not make the cut. :( The facilities were kinda primitive during that time but I have not been back since. The instructors there seemed like good people.

I'm wondering what they look like these days. I know at one point that the head dude there was offering anyone that purchased a residential lot there a full auto Uzi. I wonder how many they've sold so far.

Lots of drama related to Frontsight as revealed by a simple Google search.

Add the words Scientology, lawsuit and fraud to focus your search.

I have no association or personal knowledge other than researching in consideration of attending.

I attended a 4-day defense pistol course back in 2011. They have a number of courses for rifle, carbine and shotgun.

The facilities: Very good to excellent ranges, shoot-house and misc. areas. Had a deal set up so you could buy your lunches online and have them there the next day. Decent retail store for ammo and misc. gear (discounts to folks with memberships). I went in March - great weather.

The curriculum: good fundamentals, great emphasis on safety, several lectures on the responsbility of carrying/using a firearms. You'll have to sit through a sales pitch on becoming a member (all sorts of levels and deals). The had a very detailed lesson plan for the whole period - standardization. Strategy would suit and challenge an experienced shooter to a novice (my group had a wide-range of folks). Use of timers for most shooting activities with specific goals you were attempting to meet. Push for accuracy with speed.

The instructors: Very good to excellent. Each group had two primary instructors. Normally one was senior highly experienced trainer and the other was capable but, still learning to be a good instructor. Firm but, polite approach to training.

Hotel: Driving from LV to the site would be a PITA due to distance. I stayed in Pahrump NV at the Casino Saddle West Motel, nothing special at all.. real old and real smoky

I went out there with another MD Shooter. I took their 4 day defensive handgun class and will take the 5 day with the CCW this coming fall. It is a fantastic program. It will give you a lot of confidence in handling a gun in a stressful situation. They will teach you how to shoot faster, more accurately and when to shoot. You will learn how to clear a house, shooting ethics (when to and when not too), mental awareness, etc.

I highly recommend it. If we ever get CCW in MD, I will drag my wife and family out there for a class.

I bought a lifetime membership so I can take all of their classes as many times as I want for free.

I met a lot of terrific people there. If there is a lot of interest from MD Shooters, maybe we could all go out at the same time. It was pretty cheap to stay there, food is inexpensive too. The big expense is getting there. If you get points from your credit card or frequent flier milage, it would be a great time to use it.

I'd like to setup a group trip, am a lifetime member and have been there a few times. I went with a group from Thunderstick back in March (gun shop in Fawn Grove, PA - they are an MD Shooters Industry Partner). Training is excellent, no question about it. The email and marketing is a little much for most people.

Booking a few months in advance, you're looking at about $450 RT air, about $250 for lodging and split a rental car (minivan?). A group of 4-8 works pretty good. Couples work better if interested in a house rental or roommates to cut the hotel cost.

PM me and let's see what could work. I'd be glad to do some of the legwork.

Will pm as soon as I clear my pm box ;)
Never been and would prefer the group discount approach

Any thought on setting up a special interest group on this and setting up sort of an on going yearly or qtrly event ? Thinking qtrly is to ambitious for now.. But we can dream.

Brooklyn: Quarterly can get a little expensive, but a special interest group sounds like a good idea... Let me know how I can help.

Good times of the year to go for the weather are March/April and October/November.

I've read good and bad. Google "Front Sight law suit" - there were issues a few years ago. Not sure if things have changed or not.

I have spoken to a few people over the past few weeks. Apparently more people visit Vegas than I thought. Also more people buy the $500 lifetime membership than I thought. Also I have met more people who get invited to be instructors there after they have bought the lifetime membership and have taken a class or two.

    Yeah, I dunno......

Let's see who is interested..... I am thinking one per yr. Not qterky But if we have a bunch of folks then we would spread it around so that there would be s choice of times. I was not suggesting that one group goes 4 times a year, but that there would be 4 times a yr to try and pull a group together

I am still working the sb281 issue. As are many so...

Let's see who pop s up here...

Let's see if there's still some interest here for a trip... Airfares are on the low side right now and I think for 5 people to go, we could do a shared expense trip for about 625-750 per person including airfare, transportation, accommodations.

Looking at 4 day defensive handgun class Fri. Mar. 7 - Mon. Mar. 10 or Tue. the 11th if you want to do the 30 state CCW class, which includes Utah.

Let's get the discussion going in here... if you're definitely interested, send me a PM...
